Hunters Safety MDNR

CCB offers a state Hunter Safety program run by a certified Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Instructor at the Rifle range. The course consists of approximately 10 hours of classwork in addition to studying the handbook and other materials provided. Participants are required to visit all three ranges to ensure that the student has a basic knowledge and understanding of safety and the shooting fundamentals of archery, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, and muzzloading rifles. A test is administered on Friday morning, and those who successfully complete the course receive a blaze-orange certificate that allows the holder to purchase a hunting license.

Scouts and Scouters of all ages can sign up for the course, although the license goes into effect once the holder turns 12 (if they are 12 or older, it goes into effect immediately). Class is held at 11am and 4pm, typically at the Rifle Range. No advanced sign-up is required; all interested individuals need to show up to the Rifle Range on Monday morning to receive their information packets and weekly schedule. Any questions can be answered at the shooting sports table during the special event sign-up on Sunday in the John Dumas Pavilion.
